Our Story

Family is at the heart of everything we do at St Mawes Bakery. For over a century, the bakery has been proudly rooted in the Curtis family, that legacy continues to grow stronger with each generation. Today, we look ahead as the fourth generation, brother and sister Lydia and Olly, carry the tradition forward.

The bakery is currently run by Patrick Curtis, alongside his wife Jane and their two children, Lydia and Olly. Patrick’s journey began at just 16 years old, working side by side with his father, Ronny. After Ronny’s passing in 1988, Patrick stepped up to take on the responsibility of running the bakery, working closely with his mother, Marie, until her passing in 2017. Their dedication and hard work helped shape the bakery into what it is today.

In 1999, Patrick met Jane, and the two married the same year. It wasn’t long before Jane became an essential part of the bakery, a role she continues to hold today. If you visit the shop, you will most likely be greeted by Jane, Lydia, or Olly, while Patrick works behind the scenes in the bakery.

As a third generation master baker, Patrick’s expertise is at the core of our traditional Cornish pasties, with recipes and techniques passed down through the family over decades. At the same time, Lydia brings a fresh wave of creativity, introducing delicious new treats such as our much loved apple crumble buns.

From time honoured recipes to new ideas, St Mawes Bakery is a true family story, one that we are proud to share with every customer who walks through our doors.
