What comes first the Jam or the Cream?
Share
The age-old debate of jam or cream first has been dividing cream tea lovers for generations. Rooted in the traditions of Cornwall and Devon, the classic cream tea, complete with a freshly baked scone, rich clotted cream, and sweet jam, is a staple sight across the South West.
But the question remains: which goes on first?
For many, this isn’t just a matter of preference, it’s a matter of heritage. In Devon, the tradition is to spread the cream first, followed by a dollop of jam. In Cornwall, however, it’s quite the opposite. The jam is spread first, with the cream generously layered on top.
So, how do you eat yours?
While both methods have their loyal followers, we have to say, the answer is, of course, the Cornish way. Jam first, always.
Why not pop in and enjoy one of our delicious scones as part of your cream tea? Jam first, of course.
